Stove Maintenance
Regular maintenance is the difference between a stove that performs well for decades and one that lets you down when you need it most. Most of what goes wrong with stoves is gradual and preventable: worn rope seals, crumbled firebricks, a corroded baffle. None of these are expensive to fix if you catch them early. Left alone, they allow the stove to run outside its design parameters, which accelerates damage to more costly components.
The sections below cover the main areas to check and how to deal with common issues. If you’re unsure about anything or find damage that goes beyond a straightforward part replacement, get a HETAS or OFTEC approved engineer or chimney sweep to take a look. The cost of an inspection is nothing compared to the cost of replacing a stove body or having a chimney fire.
